Lexis

New discussion raise by Synchronous Technology make me use word/expression that readers may not be familiar with. So I think about building lexis, giving me the chance to define those new words/expressions.

Has an example all solid modeling imply history because they keep track of what you are doing, yes even ST. AutoCAD on the other had has no history. Well if you count undo/redo has a history maybe……

Also traditional modeling does not automatically mean that the design is parametric.

Since Synchronous Technology introduce new paradigm. New thinking come along and gives us the chance to review our way of doing thing.

Freeze Design

Two things that make peoples upset with linear modeling, in the parent/child dependency.

  • The first one… There is not real function to freeze a portion of the design why freezing?
  • Second one… Prevent recalculation

Synchronous Technology help overcome this in his first release and things are looking good for the future when understand the whole concept of synchronous.

Recalculation

There is no need to extend on this one many examples exist on the web

Here one…

Synchronous Technology performance

Freeze design.

This get interesting how SEwST can help designers in this field?

If you follow me from the beginning you probably remember when I write about geometric tolerance. One of them  help ground select faces to prevent them to be modify.

User define set.

This one will not help freeze design but could be a in between solution.

So let take a look at this brief video.

Flash Fit

Flash Fit concept.

Flash Fit try to replicate the process of our brain when placing part.

When we hold an object, our brain process geometry and send informations to our hand to move/rotate so we can align two parts to make them fit together.

Like Keanu Reeve in the Matrix who see things in term of 0 and 1

SEwST interface +

In the last article about the interface, I didn’t cover everything and some have been cover quickly.

Some are basic to SE users or at least for those who use their two and. For those who do not use SE it will be a nice introduction to the ergonomics place inside the software that do not catch the eyes on first look.

The first one’s I would like to review are the visualization Tools……

Little thing to know and request

Watching how people work with SE I found many entering dimension, then hit ENTER. In many case this will close the capture box.

I have mentioned in another post SE has some agronomy build in.

If you place the left hand on the keyboard (bottom left corner) middle finger and index can reach the TAB key.

So when entering value in a box hit TAB key instead of ENTER. Value will be applied and if you need to evaluate another value you could simple type again.

Not all boxes allow this because some has many options and TAB help circulate around them.

Can we enhance this….. and add this has a request?

Decide witch key accept value – F2 would be a nice choice has it is use in many other’s applications to edit field OR allow both (F2/TAB) when only one field I available either one of them will be fine, if more then one options is available using F2 to accept without changing the field would be nice.

Witch one allows circulation – Continue to use TAB

Witches accept and close the box. – continue to use ENTER.
