Solid Edge keynote
Translation from my French blog……
So here the first presentation (2008-06-01) for the next Solid Edge release.
“Solid Edge keynote” with Dan Staples also there where 3- 4 other presentations.
At this point i have raw information’s, didn’t have time to format, but this will give you a good idea of the direction for this release
The version is on it’s last stretch, the last beta testers are on their way to complete their evaluation. I estimate by the end of the month they will have finish. Add one more month to make the last corrections and another one to finalize the implementation of those corrections before going in production. Base on my own experience and estimation i would expect to see the English version ship in a window somewhere around august/september.
For my french readers, count one or two more months. So this lead us around the end of october.
Globally i would say that ST1 was a introduction to the synchronous technology. With ST 2 we now talk about technology integration.
First let’s start with the ribbon
- Quick access Toolbar allow users to re-order icons.
- You can add separator between a group of icons.
- A wide screen mode is available 16:9 this allow to add more icon to the home menu.
- A option is available to use bigger icons for those who use larger resolution on big monitor (30 inch + monitor with resolution higher then HD)
Two major addition to this version:
- Sheet metal
- Solid Edge simulation
Sheet metal
This environment have been revise from top to bottom to be synchronize. In some case there is no need to create geometry to add bend
Feature creation are more dynamic.
Simulation
A new module make the link between FEMAP Express and FEMAP
Has we speak simulation module are list has:
- Solid Edge simulation express (FEMAP Express)
- Solid Edge simulation
- FEMAP
The concept of this module follow the simplicity use of Simulation Express:
- Step one define de body and the material
- Then define force and fixe faces
- Compute the meshing
- Calculate raw data
- Teat data to show result
Procedural feature
Procedural feature take more place, A procedural feature is a standalone operation that can be recomputed by itself
The helicoïdal feature is a good example
Extend the life span of sketch
In the first release, once a sketch was consume by a feature, it was transfer in the used bin sketch. This release seem to help extend the life of a sketch. This help synchronize feature like the helicoïdal
Re-order radius
In a linear environment, it was necessary to re-order fillet sequence to obtain the correct result. This same action cam be perform using the contextual menu in a non linear modeling environment. RMB and chose re-order round where many fillet merge
In the same line of idea, you can give priority to face when multiple solutions are available.
Chamfer and draft
chamfer and draft behave like a procedural feature
“Live Rules” Panel
Layout of the panel have change
Hole alignment is now recognize upfront. No need to dig in a sub menu to access it.
New color code give better feedback to user
External fillet
External fillet have made to this release
Shaft will be resize to correct diameter if need when apply exterior fillet.
Polygon/rectangle
- The polygon tool available in the custome folder is now integrated to the interface
- 2D and 3D rules keep the integrity of the shape
Rectangle command receive few enhancements
- We can now place a rectangle by it center, no need to add constrain to center rectangle
- Creation of rectangle by two point have been update
Convert to 3D
Convert to 3D workflow has been synchronize in it’s final step after the 2D geometries are place in the 3D file
Dynamic Section edition
You can define dynamic section to edit part profile. Dynamic section can be define at the part level and modify at the assembly level
You can hide all part and show only the section to ease the edition
Face priority
In linear modeling, we have to reorder feature to get the result we want. In synchronous we give priority to face to get the result we need, no need to reorder
Pattern
Pattern have now a fill option to fill and surface area
PMI
Two mode are available to adjust PMI size
- Part scale
- Constant Pixel
Assembly
Work have been done to help a better cohabitation between traditional and synchronous
ETC….
Ok tomorrow is my presentation and i have to get prepare , more details in the next coming days
